When you used iTunes to sync or update Apple devices, you could track the progress of those actions from the status window at the top of the app. This window showed a blue progress bar alongside information about the current process. Previously in iTunes, there were a couple instances where the software download was hung up - under Catalina I would have no idea and would be wasting time thinking it was downloading when it wasn't.
